SHOWstudio Fashion Revolution

me posing with still from naomi fashion film

Dear Diary in October 2009 I went to see SHOWstudio Fashion Revolution it was an art exhibition put together by Nick Knight fashion photographer and the founder of SHOWstudion.com website and blog platform.

“SHOWstudio is based on the belief that showing the entire creative process—from conception to completion—is beneficial for the artist, the audience and the art itself.” Nick Knight (www.showstudio.com

The video above shows Knight explaining what the exhibition was about. I went to see it for myself and I received an education and became part of the art. One of the exhibits that really stayed with me was a fashion film that featured Naomi Campbell firing an automatic weapon at the screen. Nick Knight was the voiceover and he talks about the fact that black people are underrepresented throughout the fashion industry and the ideology behind this. The video was an artistic reaction to this sorry state of affairs. I decided to show how I felt about the ideas and attitudes that have led to the restricted use of black models on catwalks and in ad campaigns by posing with a still from the Naomi Campbell fashion film.
